Université de Bordeaux (UBX)

The University of Bordeaux is a dynamic hub of academic excellence, emphasizing research and global engagement. Established in 2014 through the unification of three institutions, it has since become one of France’s leading higher education centers. Recognized as part of the prestigious «Initiatives d’Excellence» (IdEX) program, it is dedicated to fostering world-class education and innovation.

The university welcomes approximately 57,000 students, including a significant international community, across a diverse array of disciplines. With nearly 6,000 faculty and staff—most of whom are dedicated to teaching and research—it operates through four major colleges. Among them, the College of Law, Political Science, Economics, and Management serves as a key academic pillar, hosting around 15,000 students and offering over 150 specialized courses.

The Bordeaux School of Economics (BSE), which hosts most of the faculty involved with the IEBA programme, is one of the leading economics research centers in France. It brings together a community of approximately 160 researchers, faculty members, engineers, administrative staff, and PhD students. One of its four research programmes, the International Economics, History, and Finance (4 or EIHF) programme, leverages both theoretical and empirical tools to conduct research in international economics, encompassing its real, financial, and historical dimensions. It focuses on key challenges posed by the globalization of economic and financial activities, exploring their causes and consequences, particularly in times of crisis. A core emphasis is placed on international trade and foreign direct investment (FDI). The team investigates the structural factors shaping global trade flows, considering various sources of heterogeneity—such as countries, firms, sectors, products, and regions. It also examines financial market behavior and structure, along with the dynamics of key commodity sectors. BSE excels in innovation economics, economic development, and environmental economics as well.
